Who is Charlie Puth?

Charlie Puth was born on 2nd December, 1991, in Rumson, New Jersey, to Debra, a music teacher, who also wrote commercials songs, and Charles Puth, a builder and real estate agent.  His father is of German descent and his mother is Jewish.  He has two younger twins siblings.

As a child aged 2 years, Puth's right eyebrow was permanently scarred in a near fatal dog bite incident.

In September 2009, he started his own YouTube channel, entitled Charlies Vlogs, posting comedy videos and acoustic covers.

Nine Track Mind (2016) is his debut studio album.

The song

"We Don't Talk Anymore" is a song produced and performed by Charlie Puth from his debut studio album Nine Track Mind . It features guest vocals from Selena Gomez; who co-wrote the track with Jacob Kasher and Puth. The song was released on 24 May, 2016. It’s a tropical house song with dance influences.

Charlie Puth created the guitar line during a trip in Japan. He produced the beat in the Philippines and recorded his vocals in Los Angeles. Months later, Puth played the song for Selena Gomez, whom he had met previously at an after party following the MTV Video Music Awards. He thought their voices would complement each other well and then asked her to sing the second verse. Gomez's vocals were recorded in Puth's closet. 

Lyrically, Puth said the song is about "relationships where you’re obsessed with that one person, but then you break it up peacefully, but it’s changed. You can’t talk to them like friends anymore. You can say you want to remain friends, but it’s easier said than done. It’s heartbreaking. ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ is basically the conversation a month after that type of breakup.

The song debuted at number 78 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and has since peaked at number 10, earning Puth his second top ten hit and Gomez her sixth. It has also attained top 20 positions in seventeen other countries, including Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Ireland, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom as well as going top 10 in Australia, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain, and reaching number one in Italy and Lebanon.

The music video was directed by Phil Pinto, featuring Mirella Cardoso as the lead actress. Selena Gomez was unavailable to perform in the video because Selena and Charlie are not in good terms. In response to a tweet asking by a fan why Selena was not in the video, Charlie simply tweeted back: "We don't talk anymore".
